On Saturday 25/01/2014 there had been the 42th WW SketchCrawl . So I met with some of my classmates here in Bristol and did some drawings. It was a long time that I did not use water-colours, I think is not bad.
Near the end of the first semester we have done different exercises in 2D animation with traditional drawing or digital flash doing some filming for real life references. We could choice how to do them. I decided to do them with the traditional drawing. These exercises were about the principles of animation. Animation Timing - Bowling ball, tennis ball, ballon Perspective and space Cycles - Flag Weight & Balance Locomotion - Walking & Running Divided in small groups we had to do a research about the 12 principles of animation creating a group blog. My mates and I have created this website where you can read about the 12 principles of animation http://fouryounganimators.weebly.com/ . Here you can read one of the three I have done the research. TIMING Timing is an amount of drawings that shows a subject of the drawing in movement. We can see it since the first animations, for example used by Winsor McCay with the famous animation of “Gertie the Dinosaur”. However a more specific meaning and use of the timing has been introduced by The Disney's Nine Old Men in The Twelve Principles of Animation, where they developed differents techniques with timing for different narration purpose. For example for a fast action like a running we could shoot on two frames, so we reduce the amount of drawings to do and still we have a smooth action. We can say that “timing gives meaning to motion”. |
